Sightline Capital

Financial advisory for owner-managed companies

A CFO’s judgement for your company, for the days you need it.

Sightline is a small firm of former CFOs. We run the finance function part-time, raise the money, and get companies ready to sell — for owners with $2M to $80M in revenue.

Every engagement is led by a partner who has been a CFO. Fixed fees, agreed in writing before we start.

Who you will work with

Every partner here has run the finance of a company like yours

We started Sightline in 2011 after years as finance directors of family-owned manufacturers, distributors and software firms. We know what it is like to explain a bad quarter to the bank, because we have done it.

How it works

What happens after the first call?

Twelve weeks is typical for a project. Retainers follow the same first month, then settle into a monthly rhythm.

A hand with a marker pointing at a budget mind map drawn on a whiteboard
  1. Diagnose

    Week 1–2

We read three years of accounts, the bank statements and your management pack, then sit with you for half a day. You get a written note on what we found.

  2. Plan

    Week 2–3

A one-page plan: what we will fix, in what order, what it costs and what you will have at the end. Nothing starts until you sign it.

  3. Build

    Week 3–10

The work itself — the model, the data room, the lender pack, the monthly close. A partner on it every week, a written update every Friday.

  4. Hand over

    Week 10–12

Your team is trained on everything we built, and it lives in your files, not ours. Retainer clients keep us on for the monthly review.

Valuation estimator

What could your company sell for today?

Pick your sector, type last year’s revenue and EBITDA, and see an indicative range with the working shown. It takes a minute and nothing leaves your browser.

Indicative only. Sector multiples are published private-market ranges; a real valuation starts by normalising your earnings.

What we would do first

An exit-readiness review

Customer concentration and owner dependence are the two items that most often cost a full turn in due diligence — about $1.8M here. We would test for both in the first four weeks.

Discuss this with a partner

Indicative only, not advice or a formal valuation. Sector ranges × your reported EBITDA, adjusted for growth and size. A real valuation normalises earnings first.

More questions

Fractional CFO

How is a fractional CFO different from our accountant?
Your accountant looks back: the year-end accounts and the tax return. A fractional CFO looks forward — cash forecast, pricing, bank relationship, the board pack — and sits in the meetings where decisions are made.
How many days a month will we get?
Between two and twelve, fixed in the engagement letter. Most companies between $5M and $30M revenue settle on four to six days a month after the first quarter.
Can we stop if it is not working?
Yes. After the first three months either side can end a retainer with 30 days’ notice. Everything we built stays with you.

Fundraising & lending

Do you only work on a success fee?
No. A preparation fee covers the model and the pack, so our advice is not tied to closing at any price. A success fee of 1.5–3% applies only when money arrives.
Which lenders and investors do you know?
Regional and national banks, asset-based lenders, private credit funds and family offices across the US and Switzerland. We shortlist for your size and sector before approaching anyone.
How long does a raise take?
A bank facility typically closes in 8–12 weeks from a finished pack; an equity round in 4–7 months. We give you a dated timetable in the first fortnight.

Exit & valuation

How far ahead of a sale should we start?
Eighteen to twenty-four months is ideal: long enough to clean up the accounts, fix customer concentration and show a full year of the improved numbers to a buyer.
Is the online estimator a valuation?
No. It applies published sector multiples to the numbers you type in, to show a plausible range. A real valuation normalises your earnings and tests them — that is the first week of an exit-readiness review.
Do you run the sale process too?
For deals under about $25M we can. Above that, we prepare the company and work alongside the investment bank you appoint, so you arrive with the numbers already defended.
